Frayed Ribbon Tips

Ever use ribbon to top a gift or make a hair bow? Did it seem like you couldn't find a sharp enough pair of scissors to make the perfect cut without the after-fray? Been there! You're in luck...as someone who makes her own hair bows for her little angel, this was the most important tip I stumbled upon: HEAT SEAL!

After you make the cut quickly run the flame from a lighter to "melt" the frayed edge of the ribbon. You have to be quick though or the ribbon will turn black (or catch fire...uh oh)from being roasted too long...we aren't cookin' smores, we're just warming it up enough to create a seal. My husband is a fireman...he'd be upset if he got called to a "ribbon fire" so please be safe when attempting this! ;-)

Happy Kraftin!

My Version of "Hungry Girl's Mac'n'Cheese"

Ok people...do you love the taste of homemade mac'n'cheese...but feel like you need to run a marathon afterwards to burn off all the calories? Well, I'm please to inform you that I have found a happy medium where you can "have your cake mac'n'cheese, and eat it too!" And the best part is, your kids will never know!

Here are a list of ingredients you will need:

  • 2 heads of cauliflower (get 'em when they're BOGO!)
  • 1 8oz pk of Kraft sharp shredded cheese (KraftinMommy loves Kraft!)
  • 1 cup 2% milk (cut calories even more by using skim!)
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup
  • 1 TBSP flour
  • 1/2 stick butter/margarine
  • minced garlic (optional)
  • bread crumbs (optional)

Wash, cut ,and boil cauliflower in large pot until soft.  Meanwhile, melt butter and flour (and garlic-optional--trust me, this is an option you want!) in sauce pan. Add milk and soup, stir until boiling. Continue to stir until it thickens. Reduce heat and add the cheese baby!!!! After cheese melts, if you think it's too thick you can add more milk to your liking.

Once cauliflower is cooked thoroughly, drain and pour into a Pam-sprayed glass pan, and let it rain cheese sauce!!!!! Pour cheese sauce evenly over cauliflower, sprinkle with bread crumbs if you like a little crunch layer to your mac, and cover with foil.

Bake at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes. Remove foil and broil a few more minutes to get that top layer bubbly and browned. Let it sit for about 3-5 minutes to thicken.

I'm telling you...from someone who's favorite comfort food has always been homemade mac'n'cheese, this is the best alternative I have been able to come across! For those of you wanting the "comfort" with at least HALF the calories, this is it! It's very inexpensive to make too, and my husband goes nuts over it. Great for large families, leftovers are amazing! If any of you try it, respond to my post and let me know how if you liked it.
